What to Expect

What to Expect During Your Thermography Appointment

Medical thermography is a non-invasive, radiation-free imaging technique that detects temperature variations in the body. This safe and painless procedure helps identify early physiological changes linked to circulatory health, inflammation, and metabolic activity.

Scheduling an Appointment

Breast Thermography International operates a network of certified thermography centers across the U.S. These locations are staffed by Certified Thermographic Technicians who have undergone extensive medical thermography training through the Professional Academy of Clinical Thermology (PACT).

To schedule an appointment:

  • Find your closest thermography location.
  • Call the center directly to book your appointment. Some locations also offer online scheduling.
  • Choose from breast thermography, full-body thermography, or targeted imaging.

Patient Preparation & Intake Forms

Once you schedule your appointment, you will receive instructions on completing the Thermography Intake Form online. Completing this form as soon as possible is important, as certain preparation guidelines must be followed prior to your scan.

Upon submission, you will receive patient protocols, which detail what to avoid leading up to your appointment. These include:

  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking at least 4 hours before your scan.
  • Do not use lotions, perfumes, or deodorants on areas being scanned.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Avoid exercise, sun exposure, or saunas 24 hours before your scan.

Read the full preparation guide here: Patient Preparation Guide.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

During your thermography appointment, a Certified Thermographic Technician will guide you through the process. The session includes:

  • A private area for disrobing behind a privacy screen.
  • A 10-15 minute acclimation process to ensure accurate temperature readings.
  • A technician will review your intake form with you for accuracy.
  • Several infrared images will be taken to capture different angles for comprehensive thermal imaging.

Since thermography is not a diagnostic tool, the technician will not provide immediate results. Instead, your images will be analyzed by PACT Board Certified thermologists.

Understanding Your Thermography Results

Thermography Patient FormsYour thermographic images are interpreted by PACT-certified physicians through a three-level analysis process. Your report will include:

  • Color-coded thermal images for review.
  • Medical history integration with findings.
  • Professional impressions & recommendations from experienced doctors.

Results are typically available within 3-7 business days. If you need faster results, a STAT (24-48 hours) report is available for an additional fee.
